About this bar
Mius opened in August 2025 at ground level on Gough Street, the solo return of Shelley Tai after five years directing Singapore's Nutmeg & Clove. Minus Workshop wrapped the narrow room in floor-to-ceiling walnut, stainless steel, and amber pendant light, and Tai built a twelve-cocktail list capped at six ingredients per drink. This profile covers what the room feels like, what to order, and how the walk-in queue works on a busy Central night.
01
Our verdict on Hong Kong's hottest new cocktail room
Mius arrived with the weight of Shelley Tai's Singapore years and the pressure of a street that already queues for ranked rooms, yet it still feels neighbourly rather than performative. The space is narrow and beautifully made: walnut panels, a stainless-steel bar, ivory leather stools, and warm pendant light that flatters every glass. Drinks are stripped back on paper, six ingredients or fewer, but they land with precision, from a savoury tomatotini to an ice-free highball that reads clean and long. Small Cantonese plates keep you at the counter without turning the night into dinner. If you want hospitality over theatre in Central, this is the 2026 debut worth lining up for.
02
What to expect on your first visit
Gough Street is a short walk from Sheung Wan MTR Exit A2, and Mius sits at street level with no hidden door or hotel lobby to navigate. Inside, the room is intimate: a stainless-steel bar anchoring one wall, walnut panelling running floor to ceiling, and counter stools that fill quickly once service starts at 17:00. There are no reservations, so expect a queue on weekend evenings and sometimes before the doors open. Service runs in English and Cantonese, the music stays low enough to talk, and the team focuses on getting your first round right rather than running a show.
03
What to order at Mius
The menu holds twelve cocktails, each built from six ingredients or fewer, so every serve has one clear idea. Start with the Tomatotini, vodka sharpened with tomato shrub, dill, and basil oil, and pair it with cherry tomatoes pickled in rice vinegar and dashi. The ice-free Kobe-style highball is the room's quiet showpiece: long, savoury, and built without the usual ice dilution. For something brighter, the strawberry Negroni lifts the classic with pink peppercorns, while Matcha Mori and Guava Oolong Float cover the dessert-and-tea side of the list. Cantonese small plates punch above their weight: crispy three-yellow chicken with sansho pepper and pork dumplings in an eighteen-hour chicken broth are the counter staples.

How to visit Mius in Hong Kong
Mius is at G/F, 29 Gough Street in Central, about five minutes on foot from Sheung Wan on the Island Line. It opens daily from 17:00 to 01:00 and takes walk-ins only, with no table reservations. Budget about HK$120 to HK$140 per cocktail, plus small plates if you want food at the bar. Weekend nights draw the longest queues, so arrive before 17:00 if you want a counter seat without a long wait, or come on a weeknight for an easier first visit. Call +852 6469 8966 if you need to confirm hours before you set out.
05
How Mius builds its twelve-drink menu
Shelley Tai spent sixteen years across Hong Kong's nightclub circuit and leading cocktail rooms, including five years as operations director at Singapore's Nutmeg & Clove, before opening Mius in August 2025. Her rule here is restraint: twelve cocktails, no more than six ingredients each, with local Cantonese flavours folded into classics rather than buried under technique. An ice-free highball, a savoury tomatotini, and a peppercorn-laced Negroni show the method, and the bar pairs them with comforting small plates so guests can stay for a second round. Tai also took the Altos Bartenders' Bartender Award 2026, the only peer-voted honour on the Asia's 50 Best Bars programme.

Why Mius is No.37 in Asia for 2026
Mius entered our 2026 Asia ranking at No.37 as a No.37 on our 2026 Asia ranking, one of six Hong Kong rooms on our list alongside Bar Leone, Gokan, Coa, Argo, and Montana. It also won the SevenRooms Best Bar Design Award 2026, with interiors by Minus Workshop that judges singled out for walnut panelling, stainless steel, and warm amber light in a narrow Sheung Wan footprint. Founder Shelley Tai's Altos Bartenders' Bartender Award, voted by fellow ranked bartenders across the region, confirms the industry regard behind the debut.
