Bird on Gammel Kongevej in Frederiksberg is often described as a vinyl bar that happens to serve cocktails. Founder Peter Altenburg, who previously opened GILT and Holmens Kanal, launched the room in autumn 2021 with washed wood tables, white walls lined with records, and hand-built speakers tuned for clean, acoustic-friendly sound. Bartenders spin jazz and 70s-inspired sets from the decks while serving pre-batched drinks that skip citrus and added sugar in favour of spirit-forward balance. Europe's 50 Best Bars ranked Bird No.24 in 2026 and named it The Best Bar in Denmark, while the global list placed it No.66 in 2025.

What to expect at Bird Copenhagen
Expect a calm neighbourhood room where music carries equal weight to the glass in your hand. The Frederiksberg flagship is compact and deliberately sparse: pale Copenhagen light through arched windows, cubed shelves of vinyl, and minimal glassware with drinks served without theatrics. Jazz is the heartbeat, though bartenders on shift may reach for 70s funk or electro-pop depending on the night. The crowd mixes well-shod locals, visiting bartenders, and design-conscious regulars who treat Bird as a listening room first and a cocktail bar second. Service is warm, precise, and unhurried.

Signature cocktails and the bottled programme
Bird batches every drink on the list for speed, consistency, and acoustic calm: no shaking means the room stays quiet enough to hear the needle. Menus rotate monthly, grouped into low-proof, high-proof, and no-alcohol sections with a dedicated Negroni page. The Buckthorn Margarita, built on sea buckthorn-infused vermouth, shows the Danish ingredient bias judges highlight. Hi-balls such as the Drenched Se7entifive pair gin with jasmine, lemon vermouth, and cremant. Lo-balls arrive with little or no ice. Classics that have stayed on since opening are also sold to take home in bottled form from the on-site shop.

How to visit Bird in Copenhagen
The award-winning Frederiksberg address is Gl. Kongevej 102, 1850 Frederiksberg, a short walk from Frederiksberg Allé metro. Hours run Sunday to Thursday from 16:00 to midnight and Friday to Saturday from 16:00 to 02:00. Walk-ins are welcome, but Europe's 50 Best notes the room buzzes on weekends, so arrive early for a seat near the decks. A second site, Bird City on Palægade 8 in Indre By, opens from 10:00 with coffee and runs cocktails into the evening. Why Bird ranks among Europe's best
Judges praise Bird for distilling Denmark through good drinks and good beats: stripped-back design, local ingredients such as sea buckthorn, and hospitality that feels generous despite the minimal room. The bar won Best Cocktail Bar and Best Cocktail Menu at Denmark's Bartenders' Choice Awards two years running before breaking into The World's 50 Best Bars at No.77 in 2024 and No.66 in 2025. On the inaugural Europe's 50 Best Bars 2026 list it sits at No.24 and takes The Best Bar in Denmark title, making it the country's sole representative in the regional top 50 and proof that a neighbourhood listening bar can compete with destination cocktail temples.
