About this bar
Obsidian Bar sits high in the Ping An Finance Center, a steampunk-style spread of riveted steel, copper accents, and skyline glass that climbs from an open-kitchen main floor to the intimate Copper Room upstairs. Beverage director Paul Hsu and Chris Wu, formerly of Shanghai's Speak Low, lead a cocktail programme that takes Victorian afternoon tea and banquet culture through Asian pantry ingredients, while a whisky library holds autographed Highland malts, rare Japanese bottles, and vertical flights stretching to a 72-year-old pour. This profile covers what to drink, how the floors differ, and how to reach Suite 601-602 on Level 4.
01
Our verdict on Shenzhen's No.11 bar
Obsidian reads like a destination bar built for people who care about both the pour and the room around it. The main floor is convivial and kitchen-forward, but the climb to the Copper Room is where the list ranking makes sense: high-backed chairs, riveted windows over Futian, and a whisky display that rewards slow sipping. The Victorian London menu sounds theatrical on paper and lands with discipline in the glass, tea foams and smoked savoury notes included. If you are bar-hopping Shenzhen, make this the stop where you stay for a second round.
02
What to expect on your first visit
The address is Suite 601-602 on Level 4 of the Ping An Finance Center South Tower, reached through the mall lifts from Shopping Park metro. Downstairs feels like a steampunk dining salon: large tables face an open kitchen and a terrace when weather allows. Upstairs, the Copper Room narrows into a moody lounge with armchairs, a long bar, and that whisky wall. Guest shifts from Asia's top bartenders rotate through the calendar, so check Obsidian Bar's Instagram before you travel if a crossover night matters to you.
03
What to order at Obsidian Bar
The current programme takes Victorian London as its frame and filters it through Chinese tea and smoke. Start with Into the Forest, Scotch whisky with citrus jam, agave, lemon verbena, and a Dancong oolong tea foam that shows the house sweet-savoury balance. The Black Manhattan pairs bourbon and vermouth with smoked plum, black garlic, bohea tea, and black vinegar for something darker. For history, order the Morning Glory from Jerry Thomas's 1887 guide, built on calvados, Irish whisky, Earl Grey, amaro, and absinthe. The Copper Room Tonic, gin with salted apple shrub and absinthe served long, is the easy highball entry.

05
How Obsidian builds Victorian flavour through Asia
Paul Hsu, formerly of Barcode Taipei and Fannou House, leads the programme with Chris Wu, who cut his teeth at Speak Low in Shanghai. Their Victorian London menu is not costume drama: afternoon tea rituals and banquet flavours become structural elements, Dancong oolong foams, smoked plum, black garlic, and bohea tea in a Black Manhattan that reads savoury before sweet. A Forgotten Cocktails section pulls drinks from period sources so the technique stays historical as well as local. Upstairs, the whisky programme matches that rigour with signed bottles and flights that climb to a 72-year-old pour.

Why Obsidian Bar is No.11 in Asia for 2026
Obsidian debuted on Asia's 50 Best Bars at No.51 in 2025 and climbed to No.11 on our 2026 Asia ranking, one of the year's sharpest risers. The jury cites a steampunk room inside one of the world's tallest towers, a cocktail list that collaborates with Asia's leading bartenders, and a whisky collection deep enough to anchor a destination on its own. Shenzhen placed two bars on our 2026 list, with MO Bar at No.6 and Obsidian at No.11, signalling how far the city's drinking scene has moved beyond hotel lobby lounges.
