About this bar
Punch Room Tokyo opened in March 2024 on the second floor of The Tokyo Edition Ginza, bringing Ian Schrager's global punch concept to Tokyo with walnut club-room interiors by Kengo Kuma and drinks led by Bar Director Yasuhiro Kawakubo. Two years later it sits at No.24 on our 2026 Asia ranking and holds The Best Bar in Japan title. This profile covers the room, what to order from the Wonderland menu, and how the glass versus silver-bowl service works.
01
Our verdict on Japan's best bar for 2026
Punch Room Tokyo makes a format that can feel gimmicky elsewhere feel natural in Ginza. The room reads like a 19th-century London club rebuilt with Kengo Kuma's restraint, low velvet seating, and walnut coffers that keep the volume intimate even when every couch is taken. The drinks are punch in name and structure, but the Japanese ingredients are not decoration: doburoku, awamori, rare citrus, and ryokucha tea change how each bowl drinks. Order alone and you get a glass; match drinks with a friend and the silver bowl arrives with ladle service that turns one round into a shared ritual. For a first night in Tokyo, this is the bar that shows how the city borrows global formats and makes them its own.

What to expect on your first visit
The bar sits on the second floor of The Tokyo Edition Ginza, a few minutes on foot from Ginza-itchome or Ginza metro stations. Expect dark wood, saturated velvet in mustard, emerald, and electric blue, and a lounge layout with deep sofas rather than a tight counter-only room. Service is polished but relaxed by Ginza standards, and the team switches easily between English and Japanese. Solo guests drink from glasses; when two or more order the same cocktail, it arrives in a silver punch bowl with table-side ladle service. Seating runs on a two-hour limit on busy nights, and guests must be 20 or older.

What to order at Punch Room Tokyo
The current Wonderland menu builds each drink around the five pillars of punch (spirit, citrus, sugar, spice, and tea) through a Japanese lens, with about fifteen cocktails on the list. Start with Kappa & Yuzu, the crowd favourite that pairs tequila with doburoku rice brew, yuzu, cucumber, and vanilla tea in an easy highball shape. Big Red Dot layers Akadama sweet wine, Black Nikka whisky, awamori, mango, citrus, and coconut tea for something richer and tropical. Daigo Punch uses Daigo no Shizuku sake with chamomile and Nanbu-bijin vodka, while New Classic Champagne tops Ao whisky and golden shikwasa with sparkling wine. Ask about the kumazasa-infused martini if you want something stirred and quieter.

How Punch Room Tokyo builds Japanese punch
Punch Room is EDITION Hotels' signature bar concept, reinterpreted in each city through local ingredients while keeping the historic punch structure intact. In Ginza, Bar Director Yasuhiro Kawakubo, a veteran of multiple 50 Best-listed rooms, maps Japanese spirits, teas, and citrus onto the five flavour pillars rather than treating them as garnish. Farmhouse doburoku, Okinawan awamori, regional shochu, and ryokucha appear alongside imported base spirits where the drink needs them. The silver-bowl format is not theatre for its own sake: it lets the team serve punch at the temperature and dilution the recipe demands, and it rewards groups who want to compare two interpretations of the same menu.

Why Punch Room Tokyo is No.24 in Asia for 2026
Punch Room Tokyo sits at No.24 on our 2026 Asia ranking. At the Asia's 50 Best Bars 2026 ceremony in Macau on 28 July, the room climbed to No.24 and became the highest-placed bar in Japan, taking The Best Bar in Japan 2026 sponsored by Mancino Vermouth. It is the bar's second consecutive year inside the Asia top 50, achieved just over two years after opening in March 2024. Tokyo placed three rooms on the list, with Virtù at No.27 and Bar Libre at No.40, but Punch Room leads the city and the country by a clear margin.
