Choosing a cocktail bar in Jakarta is easier once you decide what else you want from the night. A dinner date, a seat near the bartender and drinks with friends after work call for different places. The most interesting menu is only part of the decision.

These five cocktail bars take you from dinner and drinks in Kemang to botanical cocktails in Senopati, a hotel bar in Thamrin and smaller rooms in SCBD and Melawai. Each offers a different reason to pull up a chair, whether you want to explore a menu or catch up over a familiar order.

These positions are Top 50 Bars Asia's editorial choices, not an external award ranking. Details were checked on 18 October 2026 against the venue pages and sources linked below.

What are our top five cocktail bars in Jakarta?

1. 1920 Lounge & Dining: dinner and cocktails in Kemang

1920 Lounge & Dining suits a night that starts with a meal and leaves time for drinks afterwards. Its menu page brings together a dinner menu, a dedicated cocktail menu, and wine and spirits, so you can plan both parts of the evening before booking.

Our suggestion is to choose the kind of dinner you want, then leave room for a first drink and an unhurried second round. Ask the bartender for a recommendation based on flavours you enjoy, rather than picking solely by the name of a cocktail. Mention whether you prefer something dry, bitter, fruity or spirit-forward.

You will find 1920 at Grand Kemang Hotel, Jalan Kemang Raya 2H. Use its official reservation page to arrange a table. If your group has a budget in mind, ask about drinks pricing and any conditions attached to your preferred seating before confirming.

2. Modernhaus: for botanical cocktails in Senopati

Modernhaus takes plant ingredients as a starting point for its drinks. The mid-century-inspired room centres on a communal bar arrangement that brings guests close to the bartending. Manual Jakarta's Modernhaus profile explains the relationship between the room and the menu.

It is worth considering when you want to discuss what is in your glass. If a botanical ingredient is unfamiliar, ask how it tastes and how strongly it comes through. Being curious is enough; you do not need to know every local leaf or flower before ordering.

The important practical detail is age. Modernhaus's official house rules specify entry for guests aged 25 and above. The bar is at Jalan Senopati 79 and lists service from Monday to Saturday. Check that everyone in the group meets the entry policy before reserving.

3. Cosmo Pony: for cocktails in the centre of Jakarta

Cosmo Pony is on the fourth floor of Grand Hyatt Jakarta. Its current Cocktail Power menu draws on Jakarta and Indonesian ingredients, including fruits such as kweni and lobi-lobi. Cosmo Pony's own website has the menu and reservations.

The hotel location makes it a useful candidate if your evening is already centred on Thamrin. Choose it when you want to explore a house menu and would like the booking and arrival details in one place.

Ask the team which drink suits your usual order. If you normally choose a martini, the conversation may start somewhere different from a guest who likes long, refreshing cocktails. The venue's published rules require guests to be at least 21, and reserved tables are held for 15 minutes. Leave enough travel time to arrive without rushing.

4. Carrots: for a small bar where the drinks come first

Carrots, in the Fairgrounds basement at SCBD, describes its menu as contemporary and culinary-driven. The bar is built around conversation, with a communal counter, sofa seating and a changing drinks list. Its website gives the location and current menu.

Its FAQ is particularly useful when planning. The original space accepts walk-ins, while groups of three or more can enquire about reservations in the extension. Reserved tables carry a minimum spend. Carrots also says it does not serve food, although guests may bring their own food and utensils.

That makes it a clear choice for drinks after dinner. The bar offers mocktails and low-alcohol options too, so the table does not have to order at the same strength. It does not currently run a DJ or live-music programme, which suits a visit organised around catching up.

5. The Golden Tooth: for cocktails and a catch-up in Melawai

The Golden Tooth makes the list for its smaller, upstairs setting and emphasis on conversation. Located above the Zodiac compound, it is a change of pace from the hotel venues here. NOW! Jakarta's cocktail-bar guide describes its living-room approach and cocktail selection.

Consider it for a small group rather than choosing it simply because everyone wants to go somewhere new. Ask about seats and the current menu, then give the first round time before deciding what comes next.

The bar's official Instagram is the place to check announcements. If you are interested in the hidden-room side of the experience, it also features in our top five Jakarta speakeasies.

How much should you budget for cocktails in Jakarta?

Use the current menu for the bar you choose and check whether tax and service are included. A quoted price for one drink does not tell you the total for a reserved table, particularly if there is a minimum spend.

For a group, agree whether people are ordering individually or sharing bottles before you book. Carrots, for example, distinguishes walk-in terms from reservation terms in its FAQ. Asking early is easier than dividing an unexpected bill at the end of the night.

Can you visit several of these bars in one evening?

You can, but start by plotting the addresses. Kemang, Senopati, SCBD, Melawai and Thamrin should not be treated as one walkable strip. Choose one main reservation, leave space for the journey and make a second stop optional.

For a first visit, spending time at one bar gives you a better chance to understand its menu than rushing through five. The full Jakarta bar directory can help you compare locations before choosing.

Which Jakarta cocktail bar is best for a date?

For a drinks-only date, decide whether you want a communal counter, a central hotel setting or a smaller upstairs room. If dinner is part of the plan, check the food offering too. Tell the venue you would like seats where you can talk, rather than assuming that any reservation guarantees a quiet table.
